Studi Kasus Penggunaan Kalkulator Texas Instrument TI 89 pada PBM Matematika di SMK MUHAMMADIYAH IV YOGYAKARTA

Who didn’t know about calculator? I think all of us know about that. Yes, it’s one of the technology that help us to calculate something. Its also helpful for solving some mathematic problem. The development of calculator is so fast. There are two kinds of calculator. They are scientific calculator and usual calculator.
One of the example of the scientific calculator is graph calculator. That’s calculator can solve the mathematic problem fast and show its graph. Another that, this calculator can made a program to solve mathematic problems. Because of that, in this research will be identified the used of graph calculator in mathematic teaching learning process. This research use the qualitative approach.
There are some important direction from the Texas Instrument TI 89. First, Solve direction, this is a direction to solve the algebra problem. Second, simult, its one of the direction from the matrix fiture. By using that’s direction, the problem will be solved based on matrix equation. Ant the last is expand. Its one of the algebra fiture that solve the problem by expanding process.
In this section will be given the example of using the texas instrument TI 89 calculator to solve the two variable linear equation. The way to solve the two variable linear equation is open the APPS fiture or application. Then, put the equation to the Y= editor. After that show the problems graph. Then we can see the application from the calculator.
By using the calculator there are some effect. There will be presented the response from the student after using the calculator in learning process. By using calculator student fell that its essy to solve the problem that given from the teacher. With the calculator, the learning process in class more interesting. Another that with the calculator the learning feels develop. In the learning process, calculator is just to help to calculate. Another that its just for check the problem doing.
Altough the calculator is helpful, some student was difficult to use it. They difficult to understand the problem that want to put into the calculator. Another that, some of them feel difficult to puts the data from the problem into the calculator. And then some of them also difficult to analyze, to interpret and give the conclution from the result of the problem that show from the calculator. To solve that’s problem student can ask the teacher or the other friends that more know about that. And the negative effect by using the calculator is its sometimes make the student lazy.
And to use the calculator in the mathematics learning there are some steps. First step, the teacher must explain the important meaning of the graph calculator. Then, the student try to understand the theory and the direction in calculator. And the third, student try to puts the data into the calculator. And the last step is how to interpret its result.
